Award for Outstanding Service to Maltreated Children Nominations – Due April 30

Nominations are being sought for the 2019 Award for Outstanding Service to Maltreated Children. The Award for Outstanding Service to Maltreated Children will be given to a pediatrician or pediatric subspecialist who has demonstrated outstanding clinical care and service to abused and neglected children and their families ideally at the local or regional level.

Nominations should address the following criteria:

  • Contributions to promoting access to specialized medical care for victims of child maltreatment at a state, regional or national level through outreach clinics, training, mentorships or peer review.
  • Participation in child maltreatment taskforces/advocacy groups at a state, regional or national level.
  • Recognition as a leader in the multi-disciplinary approach to child maltreatment issues at the state, regional or national level (MDT, death review….).
  • Active participation in the education of medical and non-medical professionals from the community who are involved in the response to child maltreatment at the state, regional or national level (this would be beyond just medical student and residency lecture).

The recipient will receive a $500 honorarium, a plaque and specified travel expenses to attend the award presentation during the COCAN business meeting held in conjunction with the American Academy of Pediatrics’ National Conference and Exhibition scheduled October 25-29, 2019 in New Orleans, LA.

ALL necessary materials must be received by the AAP on or before close of business on April 30, 2019. This is a hard deadline and no extensions will be granted.
