September 30: Member Benefits and the Federal Government Shutdown

Current status

DHS is closely monitoring all of the activities occurring at the federal level, including the possibility of a government shutdown. Our goal is to keep our partners, providers, and public informed, especially our Medicaid, FoodShare, and WIC members who receive benefits and services.

If the United States Congress does not pass a spending bill before midnight on Tuesday, September 30, there will be a government shutdown. If there is a shutdown:

  • Members of BadgerCare Plus and Wisconsin Medicaid programs will still have coverage to get the care and services they need.
  • Members of FoodShare are currently receiving their October benefits on their QUEST cards on the normal schedule. They can use any benefits that are on their card to buy food during a shutdown.
  • WIC participants can continue to use their benefits and WIC vendors will continue to accept WIC benefits.

If the shutdown occurs, we will provide regular updates and also use our FoodShare: News for Members, Medicaid: News for Members, and WIC webpages to share the latest program updates.
