The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) invites you to apply for the Federal Advocacy Training on Global Early Childhood Development, taking place Monday, June 1 through Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at the AAP Office in Washington, D.C (601 13th St NW # 400N, Washington, DC 20005).
This 2- day training will equip pediatricians and trainees with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively advocate for U.S. investments that impact global early childhood development. Through expert-led sessions, participants will learn:
- The basic principles of how the U.S. Congress and Administration function
- How members of Congress make decisions about U.S. foreign assistance
- The current challenges and landscape of U.S. foreign assistance
- Which U.S.-funded global programs impact early childhood development
- How and when to engage with members of Congress on the importance of funding that support early childhood development
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
Applicants must:
- Be an AAP member
- Be a pediatrician, resident, fellow, trainee, or medical student
- Demonstrate an interest in global health and ECD
Participants should plan to arrive on Sunday, May 31, and must be available to attend the full two-day training.
All complete applications submitted by the deadline will be considered. Priority will be given to applicants with a demonstrated interest in ECD and those who are in congressional districts and/or states whose lawmakers sit on relevant committees involved in foreign aid.
Cost
All expenses are covered by the AAP, including travel, lodging, and meals.
