The following is a message from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

‘Know the Site and Get It Right’ to Prevent Vaccine Administration Errors

As influenza season approaches and mass influenza immunization programs may be occurring in your jurisdiction, now is a great opportunity to ensure staff who provide vaccines know how to do them right. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has developed tools for providers and their partners to share with members of their health care setting. These products remind providers about proper influenza vaccine administration techniques to help avoid shoulder injuries and other adverse events.

The materials include links to comprehensive vaccine administration information , a short video on the correct technique for intramuscular injection, an infographic on administering flu vaccine to an adult, and a link to the vaccine administration e-Learn.

How to Decipher a Patient’s Immunization History

A new flyer on how to decipher a patient’s immunization history in Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) has been posted to the Immunization Program website. We hope this will be helpful in answering questions that providers and public health staff have when looking at a patient’s record online. Please take a look at the flyer and use it as you see fit. It can be found on the WIR page of the Immunization Program website underneath the ‘Health Professionals’ section or by clicking the link above.
