Wisconsin’s leading health care organizations and associations have issued a joint statement reaffirming that routine childhood immunization, as outlined by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), remains the standard of care for children across the state.
The “Statement from Wisconsin Health Care and Public Health Leaders on Childhood Immunization” underscores a unified commitment among clinicians, health systems and public health leaders to continue employing evidence-based vaccination practices at a time of growing confusion and misinformation.
The statement emphasizes that the AAP immunization schedule reflects careful review of scientific evidence, U.S. disease trends and best practices for equitable and effective care. It also highlights the longstanding safety and effectiveness of childhood vaccines in preventing serious illness, hospitalization and death.
Organizations represented reconfirmed their commitment to:
- Recommend routine childhood vaccines according to the AAP schedule;
- Engage in open, respectful conversations with families; and
- Support timely vaccination to protect children and communities.
Health leaders noted that clear, consistent guidance from primary care clinicians is critical to maintaining trust and ensuring children receive protection at the ages when they are most vulnerable.
“Protecting children from preventable disease is a shared responsibility,” the statement reads. “In Wisconsin, health care and public health leaders remain aligned in supporting vaccination practices that are safe, effective and essential to child health.”
The statement reflects broad collaboration across Wisconsin’s health care and public health sectors and reinforces a unified voice in support of evidence-based care.
